i've seen similar photo concept in todd essick website, i hope its accidental.
your single light technique works good, how far u go with CS to create that images.
did u try with HMI light for pool session photo, as a fill in light, since u can adjust the power, maybe it will help u control the light, and create rim light at the back side of the model, i think it will give a dimension of the model.
in sea underwater did u use strobe diffuser to reduce backscatters, or u angled
the strobe out?

what is your opinion as a PADI course director (of course not as under water photographer) about breath holding from compress air, as i know the first golden rules of scuba diving is never holding breath from compress air no matter how shallow u dive.

finally about the model,  dear romeo, todd essick is one of my favorit photographer, he gave me some inspirations, but i try to make something different, while todd's concept is more to the interaction of beauty and marine life, my concept is more to glamour, sexy, sporty and some conservations issue (I have just completed another series of those). I'm not very good in photoshop, just a little bit of contrast, color balance, burn, dodge and crop.
I use various flash angle to reduce back scatter. i tried HID but it did not strong enough, i do not have HMI, i will make some experiment with multiple small strobes, but I need the help of some more divers to set up the light. Our team at this moment is only 5 persons (including the model and me)
breathholding while breathing compress air, well that's very dangerous thing you can do, with high risk of lung over expantion injury. While I take picture, I developed an habit of blowing small stream of bubble rather than 100% holding breath (sometimes it happens too). In the modelling session that I had, I trained the model until she can almost empty her lung before she hold her breath, and there're some safety training theory (breathing and circulation) and practice including various skills of out of air emergency, I won't take any one who has not pass my underwater model special training, the risk just too high. The model has been gone through a vigorous training before I took her picture under the sea. |
